More Evidence from the Prosecution
During the trial, the prosecution claimed that Chris arrived at the Porcos' house at around 2 a.m. and was able to gain access using the spare key. They also suggested that he deactivated the house alarm by keying in the master code. Chris' brother, Jonathan Porco, was called to the stand early on in the trial and testified that his brother, with whom he had a strained relationship, was one of six people who knew the code for the house alarm, Capital News 9 reported. County Assistant DA David Rossi suggested that Chris later, "smashed the alarm and the keypad" in an attempt to hide the fact that he knew the alarm code, CBS reported. Rossi was further quoted in the article as saying that, "the information is stored on a box in the basement, which he believes Chris probably didn't know."
The prosecution proposed that sometime between 2:15 a.m., and 4:54 a.m., Chris went to the basement, took an axe that was stored there and then went to his parents' room where he bludgeoned them with it. The prosecution further suggested that at some point during those few hours, Chris staged the scene to look like a burglary by cutting open a window screen and leaving the window open "to make it look like somebody tried to enter," McDermott was quoted as saying in court documents. At approximately 4:54 a.m., Chris allegedly cut the telephone wires in the backyard before leaving the premises.
While Chris was purportedly in his parent's house, an eyewitness named Marshall Gokey claimed to have seen a vehicle parked in the driveway at 36 Brockley Drive while on his way to work. At trial, Gokey testified that the car he saw at approximately 4 a.m. was a yellow Jeep Wrangler. Gokley said that he had "no doubt" in his mind that the vehicle he saw belonged to Chris, CBS reported.
According to the prosecution's timeline of events, Chris re-entered the highway from exit 24 in Albany, on route to Rochester at approximately 5:12 a.m., The Times Union reported. Video surveillance cameras from a medical center near the University of Rochester caught Chris' jeep on tape at 8:30 a.m., on the morning of November 15th heading back to campus, it was further reported. Fifteen minutes later, a University of Rochester graduate testified at trial that she saw Chris wearing shorts and a baseball cap jogging across campus near a bridge minutes before his dorm-mates spotted him sleeping on the couch in the dorm lounge.
