Boulder, Colo. (Crime Library ) — Little Jason Midyette's death early in March of 2006 was finally declared a homicide earlier this week by Boulder County coroner Thomas Faure. Before he could make it to his 11th week of life, Jason Jay Midyette suffered 22 broken bones and a fractured skull. Faure announced that the official causes behind the baby's death were "blunt-force craniocerebral injuries."

Now that experts have decided that the Midyette child was killed, all parties involved in the case have gone from occasional vague comments about what may have happened to complete silence. Louisville police have not named a suspect and say only that their investigation continues. Molly Midyette's lawyer, Craig Truman, has stated that he will not speak about the case outside the courtroom. Alex Midyette has his own attorney, Paul McCormick, and while he gave occasional statements early in the investigation, he has not recently returned phone calls from the press. Molly and Alex Midyette themselves have spoken to no one: they have dealt with investigators from the beginning through their representatives. They have moved from their home and have gone into seclusion.

The absence of comments from the parents and their lawyers has put the known details of their lives into high relief. Alex and Molly's formal relationship appears to be a fairly recent one. Their engagement was announced on July 17, 2005, in a short piece in the Boulder Daily Camera.
