Later that night, Kelly and a group of friends went to State Street Brats, a campus restaurant and bar located in downtown Madison. Kelly left the bar at approximately 11:30 p.m. According to April, she spoke with Kelly by cell phone early Saturday morning. April refuses to divulge the contents of the conversation to the media.

Police recently revealed that an acquaintance of Kelly's walked part of the way home with her early on June 23, but that the two split up when Kelly met an unidentified male acquaintance, which appears to have been the last time anyone saw Kelly alive. Police have yet to comment on whether they have questioned either of the men.

When Kelly failed to return home by Sunday morning, her family filed a missing persons report with the Madison Police Department. Investigators questioned Kelly's friends and collected surveillance videos from all of the places she had been the night of her disappearance. What, if anything, the tapes reveal is not yet known.
The purported discovery of Kelly's body has reminded Angela Drake's family of their own tragedy. According to WISC-TV, her parents recently visited the Holy Mother of Consolation Church, where they prayed for Kelly's safe return.
