LEXINGTON, KY — The Fayette County court has scheduled a pretrial conference date for May 21, in the case of accused serial killer Robert Smallwood. Police say Smallwood murdered Doris Roberts in 1999, Sonora Allen in August 2002, and Erica Butler in April of 2006.

AUSTRALIA— Convicted serial killer Catherine Birnie has been denied parole by the Prisoners Review Board. Catherine and her husband David were arrested in 1986 and charged with abducting, raping, and murdering four women in the their Perth, Australia, house. David hung himself on October 2, 2005. "There are a small number of offenders whose crimes are at the worst imaginable end of the scale who should never be released and Birnie is one of them," Attorney General Jim McGinty told The Sunday Times. Birnie will not be eligibly for another review until 2010.
