In mid-January, Richard and Lisa Nowak separated. Two weeks later, Lisa Nowak drove more than 900 miles and allegedly attacked Colleen Shipman, a 30-year-old U.S. Air Force captain, in a parking lot at Orlando International Airport. Shipman, who lives in Cape Canaveral and who works at the Kennedy Space Center, had just returned from a trip to Houston and is dating Oefelein, according to some of Shipman's friends.

Orlando police arrested Nowak Monday morning. Based on the charges against her, she faces the possibility of being sentenced to life in prison if convicted.

Wednesday, Nowak flew back to Houston accompanied by two fellow astronauts after posting a $25,500 bond. A Florida judge ordered her to wear a GPS tracking device on her ankle and to not enter the eastern part of Florida, where Shipman lives and works.

Not surprisingly, Nowak's parents issued a statement to the press expressing support for their daughter. In the statement, Alfredo and Jane Caputo said, "Considering both her personal and professional life, these alleged events are completely out of character and have come as a tremendous shock to our family."
