Soon, the body was identified and Danette Aydell's worst nightmare had become her reality. Her little girl was dead.
By Sunday, dozens of young people had posted messages on Kaitlin's MySpace Web site. Most were pain-filled messages of goodbye. Some were filled with anger at whoever was responsible for her death. One young man who said he had known Kaitlin in the fourth grade promised to make her killer suffer.
Kaitlin's friends called her "Legs" because of her height and long legs, according to local press accounts. She played first base on a community softball team and loved her three cats.

Late Sunday, Jason Ard, chief of operations for the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office, told Crime Library that officials in Ascension Parish have scheduled an autopsy for Monday afternoon.
Mark Lewis is being held without bond in the Livingston Parish Prison on a single count of obstruction of justice.
"We're hoping by tomorrow night to have enough information to add additional charges," Ard said Sunday.
Asked if Lewis had given investigators a statement, Ard said, "He don't have much to say, but he doesn't have to as long as we get our evidence right."
