Five have been charged with trying to steal the carcass of a lion that was killed during
Ohio's exotic animal escape incident last month. Joseph M. Jakubisin, 21, Brian L. Matthews, 21, Richard L. Weidlich, 19, Cody L. Wilson, 21, and an unnamed 17-year-old were each charged with one count of misdemeanor theft on November 7. Police say they stopped the men during the October 18 incident and found a dead lion in their Jeep. The lion was one of 48 exotic animals killed by police after preserve owner Terry Thompson released dozens of lions, tigers, zebras and other beasts from their cages before committing suicide. The five accused each face up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted.
