Alexis Simpson
September 16, 2011: Bowie State University student Alexis Simpson (right) has been charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of her dorm suitemate, Dominique Frazier (left.) A Thursday night argument over the volume of Frazier's IPod became physical, and, according to the police report, another roommate separated the two and pushed Simpson in to her room. Simpson emerged, according to police, "holding what the witness described as a knife," and stabbed Frazier in the throat. Frazier died within the hour.
At a Monday bail hearing, Simpson's lawyer argued that Simpson was acting in self-defense; the witness told police that Simpson stated, "I didn't mean to do it, you all don't know what I've been through, you all jumped me."
Classes at Bowie State were canceled the following day, as were many Homecoming festivities. Simpson turned herself in to Prince George's County Police several hours after the incident. She is being held without bond and is due to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on October 14th.
