01/10/2012: Rapper Snoop Dogg was arrested while crossing the border from Mexico to Texas over the weekend. U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents in Sierra Blanca inspected Snoop's tour bus and, according to CBP spokesman Bill Brooks, detected a smell of marijuana. A search allegedly turned up a small amount of pot, and Snoop Dogg, born Calvin Broadus, was turned over to the Hudspeth County Sheriff's office. A spokesman for the sheriff said Snoop admitted that the marijuana was his. He was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, released, and is due in court on January 20. Snoop Dogg, a marijuana aficionado who in 2011 released a single with Wiz Khalifa entitled This Weed Iz Mine, has been arrested for pot possession a number of times before.
In November 2010, fellow marijuana advocate Willie Nelson was arrested for pot possession in the same town. Sierra Blanca is about 90 miles southeast of El Paso. In 2008, Nelson and Snoop Dogg collaborated on a song called My Medicine, endorsing the benefits of marijuana.
