12/14/2011: David A. Canterbury, 33, was arrested around 10 p.m. at a Toys R Us on Hayden Island after Portland police responded to call about a man, who had assaulted at least three customers with a toy light saber. They arrived to find Canterbury in the parking lot swinging the toy and talking incoherently. Canterbury engaged police with the light saber as they tried to apprehend him. One officer tried to subdue him with a Taser, but the device failed. A second was more successful, but Canterbury managed to break the Taser with the light saber. Police were ultimately able to wrestle him to the ground as he continued babbling incoherently. He was transported to a hospital for a mental evaluation, where he was cited for three counts of fourth-degree assault, second-degree disorderly conduct, third-degree theft, resisting arrest and interfering with a police officer.
