Kristine Gilford
Kristine Gilford
On May 26, 2010, Eric Gilford, 32, entered the Chicago-area apartment where his 20-weeks-pregnant wife Kristine Gilford, 35, had been staying after leaving him. Convinced Kristine had been unfaithful, Gilford stabbed her 16 times, while her daughter from a previous relationship watched. It was the little girl's fourth birthday. Neighbors discovered the blood-soaked child in the hallway of the apartment complex and called police.

Gilford, a 13-year Navy veteran who worked as a recruiter at the time of the killing, fled the scene and was on the lam for 10 weeks, using a recruit's records to forge an identity. According to police, he abandoned his car in Fargo, ND., then headed to Seattle where he attended a White Sox game and obtained a fake birth certificate. He was finally arrested at a homeless shelter in Jackson, WY.

In June 2011, Gilford pleaded guilty to the murder of his wife and unborn child. On October 5, he was sentenced to 100 years in prison - 50 for each killing, to be served consecutively.
