Mark Kerrigan
Former figure skater Nancy Kerrigan's father, Daniel Kerrigan, 70, was found by her brother Mark Kerrigan (pictured) "in need of medical attention." Paramedics found him unconscious on the kitchen floor of his Stoneham, Mass., home around 1:30 a.m. on January 24, 2010. On arriving at the house, police found signs of a struggle and Mark Kerrigan belligerent and intoxicated. Daniel Karrigan was taken to Winchester Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Mark Kerrigan has a history of domestic violence arrests and was sued by his parents to recover money they had spent taking care of his home while he had been in jail. He was released in 2007 and has been living with his parents. Police believe that Kerrigan may have held his father in a stranglehold before the older man lost consciousness. Daniel Kerrigan's wife, Brenda, told the press that her husband had died of a heart attack and that there was nothing suspicious about the death.
Mark Kerrigan has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on an elderly person and causing serious bodily injury. He has not been charged with murder. Kerrigan pleaded not guilty in court the next day. He remains in custody on $10,000 bail. Two-time Olympic medallist Nancy Kerrigan released a statement to the press asking for privacy as the family mourns Daniel's death. Her former competitor
Tonya Harding has publicly expressed her condolences for Kerrigan's loss.
