Richmond, Va. (Crime Library) — Taylor Behl's autopsy was performed by Dr. Deborah Kay, Assistant Chief Medical Examiner, in the Richmond office of the Virginia State Medical Examiner. The Virginia Medical Examiner's organization has a reputation for excellence under the direction of Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Marcella F. Fierro.

Richmond police spokeswoman told the Crime Library on Wednesday that even though Taylor's body was very decomposed, the medical examiner had whatever was necessary to conduct the autopsy. This statement should put to rest speculation that animals had carried off and scattered Taylor's remains, making them difficult or impossible to completely recover. According to the spokeswoman, Taylor was not buried at all, but was lying in an "indentation" on the ground.

The preliminary results of the autopsy were inconclusive as to the cause of death, sources told the Times Dispatch. Additional tests are underway, including toxicology, which would identify any drugs or even poisons in Taylor's remains. Her remains were released to her family.

Interpretation of these preliminary results, if the Times Dispatch source is correct, suggests that obvious causes of death such as gunshot wound, blunt force trauma, and strangulation  have been ruled out.

The Crime Library reported on Oct. 4 in an exclusive interview with Kevin, an acquaintance of Taylor's, that the evening she disappeared she confided in him that she was going to do "something highly illegal an early birthday present. One of Taylor's friends confirmed that she had made a similar statement. With a teenager of good character like Taylor, whose only vice was smoking, "highly illegal" should not be taken literally.

Today, on Taylor's 18th birthday, her parents, Janet Pelasara and Matt Behl, have the sad duty of receiving visitors at the Money and King Funeral Home in Vienna, VA. Taylor's funeral will be held tomorrow at the Church of the Holy Comforter in Vienna.
