Jason Midyette died at Children's Hospital on March 3, 2006 from a severe brain injury. An autopsy revealed the 10-week-old had 27 broken bones, including a fractured skull, all in various stages of healing.
Alex and Molly Midyette took their son to their pediatrician in the Boulder suburb of Louisville on the afternoon of Feb. 24 and complained that he had had a seizure.
The doctor took one look at the baby's condition and directed the Midyettes to rush little Jason to a hospital emergency room in Boulder.

When the Midyettes arrived at Boulder Community Hospital, a veteran emergency room nurse called 911 and asked for a police officer. The nurse reported that Jason had suffered "significant abuse."
When a police officer arrived, Alex and Molly Midyette refused to explain their son's condition, nor would they say anything else to the officer.
