In the days following her disappearance, the Allendale County Sheriff's Department conducted a massive search for Erica at the location where her boyfriend said she ran into the woods.  Searchers found clothes, shoes and pieces of hair extensions belonging to Erica, but they were unable to locate her.  Suspecting the worst, authorities brought in cadaver dogs to assist, but the dogs failed to pick up a scent. 

In December, Tim Miller, director of the search and rescue organization Texas Equusearch, traveled to South Carolina with a group of volunteers to assist in the investigation.

"We want to search every square inch," Miller told WRDW.  "I truly don't feel she's very far away from us... This family needs closure.  This town does."

Miller and his group walked on foot and used all terrain vehicles to thoroughly search the woods where Erica disappeared, but in the end, they were unable to locate her.
