In the weeks since the slayings, a number of rumors, most of them ill-informed, have circulated, including one largely fanciful suggestion that the Keeffes were executed in some kind of mob-related hit.
Police have given no indication that they have any evidence to support that notion. But one area that authorities are said to be investigating vigorously is the chilling theory that Keeffe's legal work might have led to his death.
Though authorities would not discuss the details of their probe with Crime Library, they are said to be reviewing the cases Keeffe handled over the course of his career, exploring the possibility that a former client, or a former adversary, perhaps distressed over the outcome of a case, targeted David Keeffe for execution, and perhaps killed Carol Keeffe after she stumbled across the crime.

That, however, is just one theory.
As the probe into the Keeffe slaying enters its second month, the case officially remains a mystery. A reward offered by the slain couple's law firm, DeSisti and Keeffe and the Bradford County Bar Association is now up to $50,000 and the bar association said it is accepting donations that could bring the reward up to $100,000.
And authorities are still soliciting tips from the public. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Pennsylvania State Police at (570) 256-2186, the Athens Township Police at (570) 888-2200 or Crime Stoppers at 800-4PA-TIPS.
