After reading Crime Library's last update on this case, Brenda Nyberg, a reader from Illinois, decided to take action and started a petition to keep Loveless behind bars. Nyberg explained the reasons behind the petition in a recent post to Crime Library's message boards.
"I've never been compelled to start a petition until I read about Loveless trying to get out," Brenda wrote. "I cannot fathom a human being inflicting the torture those girls did on Shanda. I'm a crime buff and read about so many horrible cases, but none have ever affected me as this one has. I just cannot get the images of that child out of my head ... it's purely evil, no matter how old those girls were!"
To date, the petition, which is located at: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/15/justice-for-shanda, has a total of 3,562 signatures. The target number is set at 5,000.
Loveless is scheduled to appear in court on December 6 at 8:00 a.m.
