Lenahan fled the scene before police arrived; however, an investigator was able to contact him on his cellphone and convince him to surrender at a local McDonald's restaurant.
According to Lenahan's relatives, he is a New York University dropout and an unemployed artist. He allegedly suffers from spina bifida, a debilitating spinal disease, which family members claim has recently caused him to suffer from depression and have suicidal tendencies. When investigators searched Lenahan's bedroom, they found a medical prescription for marijuana, issued in San Francisco.
