By David Lohr
(Continued)
By late afternoon, Donnie and Rachel were beginning to regret riding along with me. Not only was the temperature outside well into the 30s, but my car's heater only half-worked, barely providing any warmth. So after listening to them complain for several hours, I decided to stop at a local pub so we could warm up and grab a bite to eat. While I was initially put off at the idea—I hate stopping in the middle of a hunt—the pub proved to be the most important stop we made. Not only did I find people willing to discuss Lundgren, our waitress had been an acquaintance of his and was all too familiar with the case. I was able to obtain several interesting details, including directions to both the Averys' and the Lundgrens' previous residences.

David Lohr's Jag |
So as we filed out of the pub, things took another unusual twist. One of my tires was flat and upon closer inspection we discovered the valve stem had a cut in it. A coincidence or the result of me asking too many questions? While I will never get the answer to that question, the tire did prove to be a real problem. At the time I was driving an early 1990s model Jaguar, from which I had ever so "intelligently" removed the spare tire, to make room for a stereo system. Sound before safety right? Or so I used to think. Needless to say, we spent over an hour freezing in the parking lot waiting for a tow truck to bring us a spare tire. During this time the friendly waitress stepped outside and said something to the effect of "you're lucky they only got one." Apparently I was not the first person who ran into some trouble asking questions about this case. Regardless, I did not stick around long enough for anyone to get the other three tires and headed out to get some photos.

The home the Averys rented |
After taking various pictures throughout town and of the home the Averys had rented, I drove over to the farmhouse where the murders took place. For some reason I had pictured a long vacant dilapidated house, however it looked the same as it had in the original newspaper articles from the late 1980s.
