Investigators have not yet released many of the details surrounding Bentler's arrest. While it is known that several items were seized from Bentler's apartment, it is not known what those items were, as authorities have not yet made those documents public. They are also not saying if they have recovered the murder weapon.
According to available court documents, Bentler, the father of two young girls, had been living in Quincy, Illinois, where he was employed as a car salesman. Coworkers there described him as a quiet guy who wanted to make it on his own.
"I can't point to one thing that was unusual about him," said Troy McNay—sales manager at Shottenkirk Chevrolet, where Bentler worked as a salesman—in an interview with the Associated Press. "That's what's so disturbing. There's not one thing I could point to and say, 'that dude was an odd duck.' "
"He said he wanted to make it on his own," Shottenkirk General Manager Rich Poe added. "He wanted to separate himself from (his family). He was very well-dressed, very respectful, courteous. You could tell he was from a good family."
