(Crime Library) —Ben Walker, who served in the United States Marines with John "Woody" Woodring, recently contacted me.

Ben Walker trained with Woody in Jacksonville, Florida, during the early 1990s.  Walker first heard about the case when he saw Woody featured on "America's Most Wanted."  "I almost had a heart attack," he said when describing his reaction to me.  "I'm still a bit stunned, but not 100% surprised that he would do something so stupid."

According to Walker, Woody was in and out of trouble during the time they knew each other.  He said Woody had several altercations with the authorities, and even served time in the brig for making a false ID.

"He stole another Marine's ID card (Woody was only 20 at the time) and laminated his photo on it to get access to the bars.  Woody spent time in the brig for this."

I have managed to confirm Walker's allegations, as the infraction he mentions is in Woody's service file.  Nonetheless, it was not Woody's only run-in with the law.  According to Walker, Woody was involved in another incident, only this time it involved a strip club in Millington, Tennessee.
