Vienna, VA (Crime Library) George O. Peterson, family attorney to Janet Pelasara, Taylor Behl's mother, voiced concern yesterday over the scope of the gag order imposed by Richmond grand jury Judge Margaret Spencer.

Richmond Police Chief Rodney D. Monroe requested that Judge Spencer issue a gag order on anyone testifying to the multi-jurisdictional grand jury convened in the investigation into the death of Virginia college freshman Taylor Behl. Under normal circumstances, individuals testifying to the grand jury can discuss their testimony with others, including the media, even though the grand jury proceedings are secret. The gag order prevents anyone who testifies before this grand jury from as well as any police officer.

A Richmond police spokeswoman indicated that no further comments will be made about the case for fear of damaging the investigation.
Peterson told crimelibrary.com Tuesday that the gag order would not apply to either him or his client Janet Pelasara. However, the Washington Post reported that Peterson is concerned about the scope of the gag order.
"'It is very limited and shouldn't be read as broadly as people are reading it,'" Peterson said. "'Ben Fawley's alleged statement took place outside of the grand jury and therefore outside the intended scope of the gag order.'"

Ben W. Fawley |
Ben W. Fawley has allegedly admitted to police that he killed Taylor Behl accidentally during consensual sex. Fawley, an amateur photographer, is being held without bond on child pornography charges unrelated to the investigation into the death of Taylor Behl.
"Let's be clear," Janet Pelasara said. "Ben Fawley murdered my daughter." Fawley has been caught in numerous lies to police and the media.
