Thomas and Jackie Hawks died on Nov. 15, 2004, tied to their yacht's anchor and then thrown overboard as it cruised a few miles off the Newport Beach coast. The struggling pair had been overcome by Deleon and several acquaintances, then bound and gagged with duct tape, according prosecutors.

Sklyar Deleon, 27, is also charged with the murder of John Jarvi, 45, which occurred a year earlier. Jarvi had met Deleon while both served time at the Seal Beach Jail — Jarvi for counterfeiting and Deleon for burglary. Always the con artist, Deleon convinced Jarvi to give him more than $50,000 to front a purported business deal, prosecutors say. Then the pair skipped out on their daytime work furlough programs and drove to Mexico as part of the arrangement.
But Jarvi never saw any payoff. His body was found with his throat slit beside a highway halfway between Tijuana and Ensenada.
