VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. (Crime Library) — Whenever you have a population of over 100,000, there are bound to be a few bad seeds in the bunch. However, every now and again, one of those seeds surpasses bad and sprouts into something far more sinister. Such is the case with 28-year-old Calvin Sharp, a wannabe bad boy from Newbury Park who allegedly murdered a defenseless young boy with a meat cleaver.
The disturbing attack took place at approximately 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the Hillcrest Park Apartments near Thousand Oaks. According to neighbors, a tenant of the first-floor apartment, Sandra Ruiz, 33, had been arguing with Sharp, in part, about whether Sandra's son, 6-year-old Sev'n Molina, spent too much time playing video games. The relationship between Sandra and Sharp is not yet clear; however, according to at least one neighbor, they used to live together in the apartment complex.

As the argument intensified, Sharp picked up a meat cleaver and began waving it around wildly. Sev'n began crying and ran out of the apartment and into the courtyard. Sharp's anger suddenly turned to rage, and he ran out after the child. What happened next can only be described as horrific.
"The little boy was trying to get away. He kept yelling at the boy. He was saying things like die, die, die," neighbor Julia Doryn told KABC-TV yesterday.
When Sharp caught up with Sev'n, he began hacking at the child's body with the meat cleaver, striking him in the head multiple times. Sandra quickly ran to her son's aid, only to have the cleaver turned on her. She was so severely injured by the blows that part of her hand was nearly severed from her body.
