NEW YORK (Crime Library) — Last week, I recounted the bizarre case of Brigitte Harris, a 26-year-old security guard from Queens who allegedly murdered her stepfather and sexually mutilated him. Her driving motivation was reportedly revenge for alleged sexual abuses occurring nearly 20 years ago. Since that initial report, there have been new developments in the case, including revelations by Harris' sister, 29-year-old Carleen Goodridge, that their father had also abused her.

Last week, Goodridge appeared at a press conference, where she discussed her own alleged abuse with reporters. According to Goodridge, her father began to sexually abuse her when she was four years old, and the incidents continued until she reached the age of 12. However, Goodridge said her father continued to abuse Harris until she was 18.
"I was the one person who should have understood and helped — and didn't," Goodridge said. "She called out for help over and over again, over and over again. I didn't want to deal with it at all. I wanted to forget it and its effects on my life. I tried not to let it affect me. That's the difference between me and her. It affected her tremendously."
