Zach Blanton's interests appeared to be common among his friends as well. In fact, Blanton constructed parts of his profile page as a kind of joke about how intense his interests were. His "General" interests were:

"Hunting, hunting, hunting, and oh yeah, hunting."

Blanton's interests in television ran towards sports, and Country Music Television (CMT). He was obscenely specific about his musical interests:

"Southern rock, country, classic rock, and also I would like to add, F—K RAP!"

Early on Wednesday, July 26th, police did not yet have any idea as to why Zachariah Blanton may have set himself up in a sniper's nest in the small hours last Sunday and targeted passing vehicles on interstates. A report published early Wednesday in the Indianapolis Star indicated that authorities found a note written on toilet paper that there would be a "bloodbath on I-69 on July 25." The same article stated that Blanton was "cooperative and remorseful" after his arrest, and Indiana State Police Superintendent Paul Whitesell was quoted as saying, "I would call that a confession."

On Zachariah Blanton's MySpace profile more than just his taste in music or love of hunting was obvious: the Indiana resident fully embraced things that were perhaps classically southern.

In addition to hunting, Blanton loved fishing and 4-wheel drive pickup trucks. Blanton's profile photo was of an older-model red pickup on elevated, over-large wheels. His favorite comedians were prototypically southern comics like Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy, but his reading habits included "any Tom Clancy and [Stephen] King book."
