SALT LAKE CITY, Ut. (Crime Library) —The body of missing Destiny Norton, 5, was found by police at 8:30 p.m. Monday in the basement of a nearby home, Salt Lake City police Chief Chris Burbank told reporters at a hastily-called late-night press conference.

Burbank started his news conference out with the ominous "My condolences go out to the family" and then relayed the shocking news on live television. Craig Roger Gregerson lived alone in the house where the body was found and had been arrested on suspicion of murder, Burbank said. No further details were released.

"No parent should have to endure a tragedy of this nature," police Chief Burbank said.
He added that police were simultaneously working leads regarding a sighting of Destiny in a black pickup truck and released a composite sketch of the driver a few hours before the body was found.
Gregerson lived in duplex adjacent to the Nortons and even shared the same yard. He was not home when the grisly discovery was made. Local television station KTVX reported that Gregerson had a record of assault and domestic violence in 2004 when he was 18. He was not a registered sex offender, the station reported.
