OAKLAND, CA — Investigators say they have DNA evidence linking convicted serial killer Charles Arnett Stevens, 38, to the 1989 murder of Brenda Belvins, 26, whose body was found at a house on 54th Street in North Oakland.  In 1993, Stevens was convicted in the murders of Leslie Noyer, 29; Laquan Sloan, 16; Lori Rochon, 36; and Raymond August, 28, and the attempted murder of six others during a series of random shootings that took place in Oakland during a three-month period in 1989.  Stevens was sentenced to death for the crimes, and earlier this month the California Supreme Court upheld his conviction and death sentence.  Prosecutors are now expected to file charges against Stevens for Brenda's murder.

KAMPALA, Africa — The High Court has denied a request for bail from suspected serial killer Baker Walusimbi, alias Kaweesa, 35.  Walusimbi was arrested in January 2006, at which time he confessed to committing three murders.  According to court records, the victims were Maureen Nabbaale, Jacqueline Najjombwe, and Maria Annet Katasi.  Walusimbi allegedly raped dozens of other women and reportedly said he would only kill if the victim recognized him.  A trial date has not yet been set.

HARRISBURGH, PA — U.S. Magistrate J. Andrew Smyser has scheduled a July 31 extradition hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to extradite Jose Francisco Granados de la Paz, 29, to Mexico to face murder charges.  A Mexican citizen, Granados de la Paz is currently serving time in a Pennsylvania, federal prison on immigration charges.  According to U.S. prosecutors, he has allegedly confessed to murdering at least ten women in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.  In his confession, Granados de la Paz said the murders were "offerings to Satan."
