RENO, Nev. (Crime Library) —

A week after he allegedly stabbed his estranged wife to death, and shot and wounded a family court judge who he believed had crossed him, millionaire pawnbroker and swinger Darren Mack remains at large. And now, authorities have released a description of the SUV an armed and presumably dangerous man was last believed to be driving.

Police have not yet located the silver 2006 Ford Explorer, a rental with California plate 5POR272, which the fugitive millionaire pawnbroker is believed to have rented with a company credit card after fleeing Nevada after last week's attacks, authorities have said.

Nor have there been any further sightings of the 45-year-old who is alleged to have erupted into violence, stabbing to death his estranged wife Charla at his townhouse, a far cry from the upscale suburban home Charla shared with the couple's young daughter. Authorities have issued a warrant for his arrest in connection with the murder. And though he has not yet been charged in connection with the shooting, authorities say there is enough evidence to make him the prime suspect in the stalking and wounding family court Judge Chuck Weller.

In what authorities believe is a measure of just how dangerous a man Mack is, investigators suspect that he managed to get Weller in the sights of his long range rifle from a distance of more than a hundred yards and wounded him in the abdomen as the judge passed by a third floor window in his office.

Investigators quickly tracked Mack's movements to northern California, and determined that he had used a company credit card for a transaction near a Sacramento airport.

After that, however, the trail went cold.

While authorities do not know for certain, they suspect that Mack, a seasoned traveler with a taste for the tropics, may have fled the country, and is perhaps holing up in South or Central America, maybe the Caribbean, or some such place where he can bask in the sun and still escape the heat.
