RENO, Nev. (Crime Library) — Authorities in at least two states are searching for a fugitive pawn shop owner accused of stabbing his estranged wife to death and who, authorities believe, may have tried to assassinate the controversial family court judge who presided over their contentious divorce.

According to published reports, a business credit card issued to Darren Roy Mack's Reno pawn shop was used at an airport in Sacramento, Calif., on Monday night. That was just hours after authorities allege Mack stabbed his estranged wife, Charla, to death, and before Family Court Judge Chuck Weller was felled by a sniper's bullet to the chest as he stood near a window in his third-floor chambers at the Washoe County Courthouse. The judge survived the shooting and remained hospitalized in good condition at an undisclosed location Wednesday.
While Mack, who is reportedly an experienced hunter and a man who knows his way around a rifle, has not formally been identified as a suspect in the judge's shooting, he is a person of interest, authorities have said.
