BUXTON, Maine (Crime Library)  — Last Friday, a group of teenagers who were hanging out near Warren Road in Buxton discovered a body floating in the murky waters of the Saco River.  When officials from the Buxton Police Department arrived on the scene they were able to confirm that the victim had been in the water for a significant period of time.  Investigators immediately suspected the body was 15-year-old Coreen Wiese, a local girl who had been missing for the last six months, but an official identification would have to be made by the state medical examiner in Augusta.

On November 8, 2006, Coreen Wiese got on the school bus to go to school, but when the bus returned later that day she was nowhere to be seen.  Calls to her cell phone went unanswered and with each passing hour her parents became more anxious about her safe return.  Coreen suffered from epilepsy, so local police made her disappearance a priority.

Investigators from the Buxton Police Department, Maine State Police, Maine Warden Service and Cumberland County Sheriff's Department all worked together in the search for Coreen.  Bloodhounds searched nearby woods, as rescuers brought in aircraft and boats to comb areas inaccessible by foot.  While the search went on outside, another team of investigators scrutinized Coreen's Internet activities, looking for any indication of foul play.  Despite all of their efforts, investigators on both ends of the spectrum came up empty handed.

When local media picked up news of Coreen's disappearance, a witness notified authorities that he had saw a girl fitting Coreen's description at a rest stop off Route 25 in Limington.  When authorities went to investigate, they discovered Coreen's cell phone, mp3 player and some etchings that included her name, the date she disappeared and the letters RIP, scrawled under a bridge that stretches across the Saco River.  It appeared, for all intents and purposes, that Coreen had taken her own life by jumping into the massive river.
