Regardless of the prosecution's objections, judge Devlin lowered Hsu's bond to $400,000. However, in granting Hsu's request, Judge Devlin imposed several stipulations. Among them, Hsu was ordered to undergo 30 days of in-patient treatment for bipolar disorder at SLS Health in Brewster, N.Y., after which time he must live with his parents in New York City. Hsu was also prohibited from entering New Canaan and was ordered that he cannot contact his victim or her family. "You can talk the talk," Judge Devlin said to Hsu during the hearing. "Just because you tell me, doesn't mean you accept it. I want you to understand this, and, one false step, and [the prosecutor] will be back here asking to increase the bond to $1 million or higher, and I'll do it."
Other conditions of Hsu's bond state were that he must continue any outpatient programs recommended by his therapist, and he must be in weekly contact with his bail bondsman. In addition, he was ordered to surrender his passport and was told he could only access the Internet for work.
