Eric Volz |
In 2005, Eric Volz, then 25, decided to move from his hometown of San Diego, California to Nicaragua where he was offered a high paying job selling real estate for a franchise of Century 21. Not long after accepting this new job, Eric met Doris at a local restaurant where she was employed as a waitress. The two hit it off and eventually moved in together.
Eric had his eye on the future and soon decided to take the plunge into the world of publishing. His idea was to start a bilingual magazine about foreign investments in Nicaragua. Using money he earned from selling real estate, Eric funded his idea and called the magazine "El Puente," meaning the bridge. The magazine quickly proved to be a success, and Eric was soon on his way towards a bright and promising future.
With the growth of his magazine, Eric decided he needed to move to a bigger city and establish a central office. With Eric's encouragement, Doris had opened her own clothing store, which was also becoming a hit with local shoppers. Both of them had their own dreams to follow, and unfortunately, neither of them fit into the other's plans. The relationship eventually came to an end, but they remained on good terms. Doris resigned herself to stay behind, and Eric moved on to the capital, Managua, a two and a half hour drive from San Juan. Once there, he opened an office for his magazine.

By the fall of 2006, Eric had grown tired of Managua and decided to relocate his magazine to Costa Rica. Everything was moving along smoothly until the afternoon of November 21, 2006 when a friend called him and told him about Doris' murder. Shaken by the events, Eric rented a car and drove to San Juan to offer his condolences to Doris' family. He soon learned that police had arrested two local surfers for the murder: Julion Martin Chamorro and Nelson Lopez-Danglas.
