Canfield, Ohio (Crime Library) — Daniel DiPiero was a passenger on the Mariner of the Seas, traveling from Cape Canaveral, Florida (FL) to the Bahamas.
Video footage from a cruise ship security camera may be the best clue the U.S. Coast Guard has as to what happened to 21-year-old DiPiero, a resident of Augusta, Ohio. The Associated Press reported on May 16, 2006 that DiPiero was seen "around 2:15 a.m. Monday on the fourth deck, leaning on a rail near the front of the ship..."

Daniel DiPiero was reported missing at 11 a.m. later that day. Eight hours later the U.S.C.G. received a "man overboard" message from the Bahamian-bound cruise ship.
Daniel had a MySpace profile at http://www.myspace.com/53820770. Under "interests" he wrote that he liked "beer, good times extreme anything," and that his hero was "Hugh Hefner I wanna be just like him."
DiPiero also took a survey used by many who have MySpace pages to quickly disseminate information about themselves to casual readers of the profile. In the survey he said he went by Dan, or "dapezzo," was born on December 14, 1984 in Youngstown, Ohio, he was right-handed, blonde, blue-eyed, and of Italian heritage. Dan said in the survey that his weakness was, "sexy, blonde" females.
Answering the portion of the survey that asked about fears, Dan DiPiero wrote just one word: "drowning."
