KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Suspected serial killer Lorenzo Gilyard, 56, was convicted today on six counts of murder dating back to 1986. Authorities arrested Gilyard in 2004, after a state crime lab linked him to 13 murders. Prosecutors chose not to charge Gilyard in six of those cases, because they felt they did not have enough evidence. When he made his ruling, Judge John O'Malley called the cases "obscene insults to our sense of justice, security and freedom." Gilyard's sentencing is scheduled for April 13.

| SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Confessed serial killer Wayne Adam Ford was sentenced to death today for four counts of first-degree murder. Prosecutors described the murders, which took place in 1997 and 1998, as cruel and atrocious. Ford dismembered the victims and kept certain body parts for sexual stimulation. When he surrendered in 1998, Ford was carrying a severed breast in his pocket. After the hearing a pre-sentencing report was released. In the report, Ford attempted to downplay his role in the murders. "There was no struggling and no pain inflicted upon the victims," the report quoted Ford as saying. "All acts and activities were consensual. Anything that might have appeared to be painful or torturous was done post-mortem... Most serial killers are proud of their work — not me." |

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — On March 6, 1970, Mack Ray Edwards, 51, walked into the Los Angeles Police Department's Foothill station and confessed to molesting and murdering six children over a twenty-year period. Edwards later pled guilty to three of the murders and was sentenced to death. After his trial, Edwards revealed that he had actually killed 18 children. Nonetheless, the investigation came to a halt in 1972, when Edwards hung himself in his cell at San Quentin. Now, 35 years later, investigators have reopened the investigation in hopes of closing the books on four missing-child cases. Investigators recently obtained a search warrant for the home of Edwards' former wife. During the search, police confiscated letters, photos and other items belonging to Edwards. The investigation is ongoing.
