"I've never heard of another case getting this much attention and people wanting to contribute money like this," Fritz told the Associated Press on Friday. "I think it's because this was so horrendous and because the victim was a teenage girl."
If police find the Jeffrey Dahmer wannabe who is responsible for Chevy's death, that person could receive up to four years' imprisonment and a fine of up to $10,000. Unfortunately, that is Minnesota's strongest penalty for animal abuse.
The HSUS has established a "Justice for Chevy" reward fund so that people can donate money to this and other animal cruelty cases. For more information, visit the HSUS website at: www.humanesociety.org.
