Lopez told police that her son died two months later. Sebastian's death, according to Lopez, was an accident and occurred after she rolled on top of him while she was sleeping. As she had with Sariyah, she put him in a trash bag and hid him under her apartment.
Police charged Lopez with one count of capital murder in the death of Sariyah. Charges are pending in the death of Sebastian. Salazar has been charged with injury to a child by omission because he admitted having knowledge that Lopez was abusing the children. Lopez was placed in the Bexar County Jail in lieu of posting $10 million bond. Salazar is in the same jail in lieu of posting $1 million bond.

Following the arrests, District Attorney Susan Reed held a news conference to update the public on the investigation. After debriefing the media, Reed announced that she would be seeking the death penalty for Lopez.
"For whatever reason, evil lurks in some individuals and they kill children," Reed said. "But we can't stand by and wash our hands of it."

The San Antonio Police Department has not released the official causes of death of the children; however, the coroner has ruled that neither death was accidental.
"I'm just sorry, just sorry for everything, because I hurt everybody that I love," Lopez said Sunday in a jailhouse interview with the San Antonio Express-News. "All I can say is, my kids mean everything to me." Obviously.
A resident of Lopez's former apartment building made a sign late last week and affixed it to the side of the apartment building. The sign only consists of three words, but these three words speak volumes. The sign reads: "Shame on CPS."
