Lt. Joe Ruet told Crime Library that Burns introduced Smith as his fiancee to Jackie's father, David Hartman.
David Hartman said if Smith had immediately told police what she knew about Jackie's disappearance, his daughter might still be alive.
"I talked to her the first day my daughter was missing and asked her if she knew anything...she said nothing," David Hartman told The Arizona Republic. "I hope they throw the book at her."

On Feb. 9, a grand jury indicted Burns for first-degree murder, kidnapping, sexual assault, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
In late February, police told Crime Library that both Smith and Barnett were "persons of interest" in their investigation, but since Smith's arrest, Ruet said he does not expect Barnett to be charged in connection with the case.
