DENVER, Colo. (Crime Library) — Jason Midyette spent the last week of his short life in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children's Hospital in Denver. He died there of a severe brain injury on March 3, 2006, one day short of turning 11 weeks old.
As expected, Jason's parents, Alex and Molly Midyette, spent much of that week at the hospital with their dying son. What was not expected, at least according to a medical care professional who worked there and who spent several days near Jason and his parents, was Alex and Molly's unusual behavior.

"It was very odd," the health care provider, who asked not to be identified in this story, told Crime Library in an exclusive interview. "These were not your normal parents that were there grieving."
At the time Jason was brought into the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, the health care provider had worked there for several years, during which the provider had seen and worked with countless scared and grieving parents whose children were severely injured, critically ill, or dying.

"Literally every day, children die in that unit," the provider said.
What the health care provider saw during four or five days spent with Jason and his parents has haunted the provider for the last year and prompted the provider to come forward and speak to Crime Library.
This report is based on Crime Library's interview with the health care provider on the one-year anniversary of Jason's death.
