On Sunday, the Sakonnet River was searched again. Multiple departments helped in the search. Those present included the Portsmouth Police and Fire Departments, Newport Police, the Rhode Island State Police K-9 unit, the Department of Environmental Management, the Coast Guard, and the state fire marshal. As with the first search, nothing turned up.
As the search continues, the Rhode Island State Crime Laboratory is analyzing charred debris from the Matoney home. Right now, fire investigators are calling the fire suspicious. An official ruling is expected within the next few days.
