JACKSONVILLE, Fla.(Crime Library) — Kimothy Mark Simmons, 17, was arrested Saturday during a carjacking and abduction. Undersheriff Frank Mackesy of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Department said that Simmons has been charged with the stabbing murder of 23-year-old Riverside nursing student Sarah Whitlock. He is being held at the Duval County Jail.

Mackesy recalled seeing Simmons on surveillance videos of four separate shopliftings, one of which showed Simmons stealing a black tee shirt with the "police" printed on it. Simmons admitted to investigators, according to published reports, that he told Whitlock that he was a police recruit when he met her at Jacksonville Landing, a shopping center. He admitted that he then tracked down her address and information about her car. Simmons denied that he killed Whitlock, but admitted that he was in her apartment wearing the shoplifted items on the night she was killed. Police theorize that Simmons used the tee shirt to gain entry into Whitlock's apartment March 10 since there was no evidence of forced entry.

Police reports also suggested that Simmons indicated he had a sexual interest in Whitlock and had taken a bus to her apartment before and after her murder.
