Records from the Arizona Department of Corrections show Burns spent more than seven years in prison. He was originally sentenced to three and a half years for a pair of burglaries, but had time added to his sentence after being caught with a homemade knife while in prison.
Department of Corrections records also show that while Burns was behind bars he was anything but a model prisoner. He was disciplined at least 30 times for violating prison rules. Burns' violations included engaging in sexual acts, tattooing, arson, rioting, fighting, and escape.
He was paroled from prison in August 2006.
Published reports say that Burns worked at an electrical contracting company in Phoenix after he was released.
Jackie Hartman recently met Jonathan Burns at a gas station, according to Daniel Smith, 20, who works with Jackie at Banner Baywood Hospital.
Smith told the East Valley Tribune that Jackie said Burns was very assertive when they first met and asked for her telephone number right away. She gave him her number and later agreed to a date.
