What Fitzgerald seeks is a court order that will put half the proceeds from any of the couple's property that Paul Fields sells into a trust fund in his daughter's name.
He's telling everybody that she ran away, Fitzgerald said, so the money should be here when she comes back.
Fitzgerald, however, said he doesn't believe his daughter ran away. She was very close to her family, he said. "If Maureen had left with someone, we would have heard from her."

What he said probably happened is that Paul Fields tried to stage a suicide but botched the job.
Fitzgerald said he has to face the fact that his daughter Maureen, missing and unheard from for nearly a year, is likely dead. "I wish to God that was not the case," he said. "But we have to be realistic."
For his part, Paul Fields continues to deny any involvement in his wife's disappearance and claims he has cooperated fully with investigators.
"I don't know what happened to my wife," he said.
