A Murder on New Year's Eve
Perhaps if Mary Lacy needs a lesson on how to prosecute alleged baby killers she should look to Louisiana.
Just past midnight on Dec. 31, police in Lafayette responded to a call about an unresponsive baby. When the officers arrived at the house they found 8-month-old Harmony Rose Ritchey dead. Harmony's mother, April Ritchey, and April's boyfriend, 29-year-old Brian Crimiel were the only other people in the house.
An autopsy revealed that Harmony died from severe head injuries.

Brian Crimiel |
Just three days after Harmony's death, police arrested Brian Crimiel for first-degree murder.
In announcing the arrest, a police spokesman said, "As far as right now, the boyfriend is the only suspect, and he has been charged with murder."
The next day, Jan. 4, Lafayette Parish District Attorney Mike Harson made his own announcement: "Because of the age of the victim, being under 12, it would be our intention to seek the death penalty."
In Louisiana it seems that the authorities do not tolerate those who murder children. So far, the same cannot be said of Colorado.
