WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — The daughter of a murder victim has sued confessed BTK serial killer Dennis Rader in a move said to be aimed at keeping him from making any money from books, movies or appearances.
Marine Hedge, who was slain on 1985, was one of 10 people Rader has admitted killing to fulfill his sexual fantasies. Her murder had gone unsolved until Rader's arrest earlier this year.
In her lawsuit, Carolyn Hook asks for more than $75,000 in damages for her mother's wrongful death, more than $75,000 in damages for her own emotional distress and for the payment of her mother's funeral expenses.
Rod Hook said his wife's lawsuit was aimed at preventing Rader — whose self-given nickname stands for "Bind, Torture, Kill" — from profiting from his crimes. The suit was filed Friday.
"No one should profit from these heinous activities," Hook said. "My wife's not in this to make one red cent. That is not going to bring her mother back."
